Monday - February 2, 2015 -  E - Day - SNOW DAY

Tuesday, February 3, 2015 E - Day

Variables, Purpose, Hypothesis-

Hypothesis Overview :

Hypothesis Overview:

Objectives for the Lesson- As a result of the lesson students will...

Work in collaborative groups to write the purpose of their experiment.

Distinguish between independent, dependent, and controlled variables

Write independent, dependent, and controlled variables for individual experiments.

Lesson Overview-  Science Buddies Variables

Students will learn:

Independent Variables- what changes in the experiment.
Dependent Variable- What is measured or observed
Controlled- What remains the same

Model:

Independent Variable - The independent variable in our experiment is drinking and 8oz glass of water before bed.

Dependent Variable- The dependent variable in our experiment is counting the number of times a person wakes up a night.

Controlled Variable- The controlled variable will be the amount of water being consumed a night.

Evidence of Learning- Students will write, edit and type purpose, variables and hypothesis for experiments.

Wednesday, February 4, 2015 - F- Day

Objectives : As result of the lesson students will...

Work in cooperative groups to complete hypothesis for experiment.

Write hypothesis as an If, then statement.

Learning Overview: Students will discuss with the students the importance of a hypothesis in an experiment. Students will write the hypothesis as an if then statement.
Example:  If a person drinks an 8oz glass of water before bed, then they will not wake up as much as  a person who does not consume water.

Evidence of Learning:  Students will write their hypothesis as an if , then statement.

Thursday, February 5, 2015 A- Day

Objective: As result of the lesson students will...

Work in collaborative groups

Monday, February 9, 2015 C- Day

Morning Meeting Procedure

8:20-9:15
Students will make their way down to the LGI room and participate in Monday Morning Meeting. Students will listen  and actively participate in the meeting. During the meeting students will do the following.
- Greeting - In preparing for the year the students have been working on professional greetings. student have been learning to introduce themselves by making eye contact, shaking hands in a professional manner, clearly saying their names and actively listening.
- Morning Buzz- Students will participate int he interactive news segment of the Monday Morning Meeting. During this time students will learn objectives for the week, review previously taught content, current events, weather and self- reflection. ( Focus of the Lesson Health- Hygiene)

Speaker - Officer Taylor Smoke and Benny of the St. Regis Mohawk Police Force K- 9 Handler

Objectives for the lesson : As a result of the lesson students will.....

1.)  Learn how to use observation logs and data collection tables to collect data during the experiment.
2.) Create data and observational tables for experiments.

Lesson Overview:  Teacher will compare data tables and observations logs.  Observations longs need to have a great deal of detail when recorded.  Data tables need...

Data and Observation Tables Need...

- Titles for each data table

- Need to have trials labeled

- Need to have observations labeled

- Word processed

- Need to be organized and neat

Sample Data Table:

Sample Observation Log:

Needs Dates, Time, Physical Descriptions, Weight Color, Smell, Texture, Etc

Evidence of Learning Students will create data tables for their experiment.

Tuesday, February 10 , 2015 D- Day
Objectives: As a result of the lesson students will...

Learn how to write a data analysis.
Work in collaborative groups to complete data analysis
Produce a final copy of the data analysis

Lesson Overview: Students will learn about data analysis using the the following link:

Data Analysis- Read overview.  Model with sample by showing sample .
Evidence of Learning- Student produce a data table or observational analysis of data or observations.

Wednesday, February 11, 2015- E day

Preparing a conclusion:

Objectives- As a result of the lesson students will....

Work in collaborative groups to write a conclusion for science fair
Write the conclusion for science fair

Lesson Overview - Students will use the following link below to learn about writing conclusions.

Writing a conclusion- read overview , model sample, use check list when writing their conclusion.

Evidence of Learning - Write a conclusion that restates hypothesis, validates or invalidates the hypothesis. explains what was observed during the observation and supports with data, explains what further research can be done or plans for the next experiment,

Thursday, February 12, 2015 - F Day
Abstract

Objectives for the lesson : As a result of the lesson students will...

Work in collaborative groups to write the abstract for their experiment.

Write the abstract for their experiment

Lesson Overview:

Students will go to the  following link:
lAbstract
Students will read overview of the abstract
- Students read sample
- Use checklist to complete abstract

Evidence of Learning-Write the final copy of abstract
