Chapter 2
Heat Transfer Pages 40-43

Science Objectives: As a result of the lesson students will...

1. Describe how temperature is measured.

2. Identify three ways heat is transferred .

3. Explain how heat is transferred in the troposphere.

How a Thermometer Works

Students will work in cooperative groups to describe how a thermometer measures temperatures.  Students will discuss how the expanding and contracting of the mercury inside the thermometer expands when it is war and contracts when it is cold. Students will discuss the type of scales used to measure temps ( Celsius and Fahrenheit) . Student will identify the temps, water boils at and freezes at on the Fahrenheit and Celsius Scale.)

Evidence of Learning: Students will discuss that a thermometer is used to measure temperatures. Identify the two scales and discuss how a thermometer measures temps by contracting when it is cold and expanding when it is warm.
