Monday Morning Meeting Protocol.
Students will participate in Monday Morning Meeting. Students listened to the morning buzz presentation; Presentation includes, local news, world news, weather, birthdays, week in review and events to come up. Students welcomed the other two grade six classrooms into the STEM program. The STEM council will present to the classrooms the procedures and expectations for the STEM team. Students will learn the objectives for the week and listen to Mr. Kerr the NERIC specialist for the district on working in the information and technology field.
Science Objectives: As a result of the lesson students will...
1.) Demonstrate their knowledge of land forms and maps in chapter one.
2.) Complete the assessment that demonstrates knowledge of content.

Objectives: As a result of the lesson students will...
1.) Distinguish between the three map projections; Mercator, Conic, and Equal Area.
2.) Create their own conic map.
Lesson: Students will learn about the three different types of projections. Distinguish the differences between 2d and 3d mapping. Understand how scientist use these maps to study the earth. Students will create a 3d model of 3d mapping.
Evidence of learning- Complete a projection map.
Homework: Page 19 3a and 3b

Objectives- Students will....
1.)Understand the differences between different types of mapping systems.
2.) Understand how computers use pixels to make models of the earth.
Lesson Overview- Students will look at pages 14-15 in their text and learn about the history of map making. Students will think -pair share and discuss how maps have changed. Learn about surveying and how it was connected to map making. Learn about sextants, compasses, and the telescope. Students will then learn about computer generated maps. Students will then make a picture of an apple using the idea of creating pixels.
Evidence of Learning- Describe the instruments used to make maps. Understand how computers create images of maps and land forms which lend themselves to creating GPS images.

1.) Learn about GPS systems .
2.) Explain how GPS satellites work.
3.Identify the need for GPS system.
Lesson Overview: Work together in cooperative groups to identify the needs for GPS system. Students will then work on their advertisement brochure for GPS system. Students will use the text on pages 24-25 to help write their advertisements.

Discussed the process of working up to the Science Fair. Evaluated their performance during the science fair. Discussed up coming STEM elections of new officers. Students were given the opportunity to work in their socials studies travel brochure which is dues on Tuesday. Travel brochure educates the reader about ancient Mesopotamia.

Students will identify the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere created by the equator. Students will then identify the eastern and western hemisphere created by the prime meridian. Students will then learn how to identify the lines of latitude and longitude on a map. Students will then use coordinates to identity points on a map.

Lesson Overview:
Overview
Your conclusions will summarize whether or not your science fair project results support or contradict your original hypothesis. If you are doing an Engineering or Computer Science programming project, then you should state whether or not you met your design criteria. You may want to include key facts from your background research to help explain your results. Do your results suggest a relationship between the independent and dependent variable?
If Your Results Show that Your Hypothesis is False
If the results of your science experiment did not support your hypothesis, don't change or manipulate your results to fit your original hypothesis, simply explain why things did not go as expected. Professional scientists commonly find that results do not support their hypothesis, and they use those unexpected results as the first step in constructing a new hypothesis. If you think you need additional experimentation, describe what you think should happen next.
Scientific research is an ongoing process, and by discovering that your hypothesis is not true, you have already made huge advances in your learning that will lead you to ask more questions that lead to new experiments. Science fair judges do not care about whether you prove or disprove your hypothesis; they care how much you learned.

3.) Identify the variables in three experiments.
4.) As a group generate the variables in their science experiment which will be word processed by the end of the class.
Lesson Overview: Today the students will be learning about the three different types of variables in a scientific experiment. Students will learn that the independent variable is change in the experiment. The dependent variable is how the experiment responds to the change ( independent variable) and the controlled is what is remaining the same. Student will analyze three labs and identify the independent variable, the dependent variable and the controlled variable. Student will then create the variables in their experiments. Students will word process variables for their report.

- A hypothesis is an educated guess about how things work.
- Most of the time a hypothesis is written like this: "If _____[I do this] _____, then _____[this]_____ will happen." (Fill in the blanks with the appropriate information from your own experiment.)
- Your hypothesis should be something that you can actually test, what's called a testable hypothesis. In other words, you need to be able to measure both "what you do" and "what will happen."

1.) Work in cooperative groups to write a research report that demonstrates background knowledge of their topic that they have selected.
2.) Use research notes to produce a written report .
3.) Cite evidence from research notes in reports.
Lesson Overview: The previous week the students researched from three different research sources. Students organized their research and have been preparing to write their research reports. Students will learn how to take their notes and write their research reports.Each group of students will produce written report which demonstrates their knowledge of their topic, cites evidence, and communicates knowledge of content.
Evidence of Learning: Students will produce a rough draft as group.

Objectives for the Lesson: As a result of the lesson students will...
1.) Work in collaborative groups to edit and revise their rough drafts of the research reports. Revisions will check spelling, grammar, citations, and answer the questions: Does this research help me with my experiment.
2.) Students will word process their final copy of their research paper.
Lesson Overview: Students will be combined with their group members to continue working on their research paper. Students completed their rough draft yesterday and are now on the revision section of their paper. By the end of today students will work together and present a final typed copy of their research paper.
Evidence of Learning; Students produce a final copy of their research paper that offers evidence that they have background knowledge of their topic.

2.) Use the website www.knightcite.com to cite all of the sources that they used during their research period.
Evidence of Learning: Students will cite their sources using the knightcite web tool to cite their work using MLA format.
